Would mother approve that Gwen might finally be settling down with just one guy? It's better than the alternative.
"I love you," he told her once in her living room. Stunned, all Gwen could think to do was kiss him. "I'm guessing that's your way of saying it back?"
She just stared at him, opening her mouth, then closing it again.
"I'm sorry, I caught you off guard." He got up to leave.
"Aiden..." She started. "I... love you too."

Somehow, they ended up upstairs, in her bedroom, under the covers.
When she woke up, he had gone. Gwen went about her day as normal, eating, practicing, writing, looking for jobs in the paper. As she did these, she was always waiting for her phone to ring, or for him to show up at her door. Gwen told herself that she would call him in the morning.
