The other blog

So I have started another blog called Hope is a Thing of Feathers and I pretty much tell you what is going on with the story and how it's going. I have decided to try and make it a book. It is based off of this sim story, but without the sims. It also has some new twists. Go take a look, I try to post once a night.

Another Sims 3 issue

I swear to goddess that every single time I get to the middle of a good story, Sims 3 fucks up.

Here's what's going on:

Last night, I could play just fine. I prepped a little more for a new story that I *was* going to try. This morning, I tried opening my launcher. It worked just fine, until I hit the play button. It then went into (Not Responding). So, I did the whole reboot trick. Nothing. I found that my savedsims AND mods folder had disappeared. System Restore. I still am not able to make my launcher work, but I have been able to use the application in My Computer\Program Files (x64)\Electronic Arts (etc) ... When I open the game it works fine, but when I get to my games it just shows the outline of the parents and an error when I try to load the file.

I found a thread on the Sims 3 forums about the same issues after I checked my files again. Everything was there except for my savedsims folder. I checked my saved games folder and it has all of my games and their backups. When I looked at the thread, and saw where someone had said to delete the backup and the file should work, I did so and opened my game again. The saved game did not work.

I went to page two of the thread, and saw that someone had said this:

"now by any chance was it the download version. i had that happen to me when i got the download version of ol stuff and so did many other people at the time . all our saved games just vanished completely, i asked on tech forum and ea cs and was told there is no way to get these lost games back. so before i get any download ep or stuff ,i will now always back up all my sim game files."

and this:

"That happens to me. In it's place are the sillouettes of two people and a baby with a blue vortex like backround."

So, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot get my games back, nor will my game work until I reinstall the game. I have been looking for a solution for over two hours. (I will note here that I am a very fast reader and typer, imagine the solutions I can find in two hours. I found nothing that helped me.)

So this marks the end of the story for now, unless I decide to continue the story without my sims game. The story will end up being in real time, and be a little more realistic, but you will not have the luxury of seeing my pretty sims. (Sadface). I will put up a poll for it soon.

Blessed be.

After great pain, a formal feeling comes. The Nerves sit ceremonious, like tombs.

Later that day, as Gwen was leaving the supermarket after going through a long grocery list, she spotted a familiar face just outside.

She stared for about 15 seconds trying to put a name to his face. When he suddenly looked up she got it.

"Alister?" she asked, knowing she was right.

"Gwenith?" he said her name too, and now his eyes were moving to her now showing belly. "Are you...?" he pointed to her tummy.

"Um... Yeah. Long story."

"Then why don't we get coffee together or something, we need to catch up."

Gwen looked at her highschool sweetheart with disbelief. He had left her back then, is he asking her out? "I have to go. Frozen groceries and whatnot."

"I'll help you."

Gwen was about to protest but he grabbed some of her grocery bags out of the cart and started putting them in the trunk of her car.

"Why don't I come over, I'm sure you'll need help putting them away, too."

"I have a roommate who can help me, but thank you."

"Why don't I come over anyway?"

She blushed at his offer. Why not? "Okay... Get in."

The ride home was silent.

Forever is composed of nows.

Gwenith, of course, knew her daily routine and lifestyle was going to change once Agathe moved in the very next day. She just didn't know how much.

Agathe already had her things on the porch by ten in the morning.

Groggy and sleepy-eyed, Gwen helped her friend move her boxes to the empty bedroom.

"How in the world did... Nevermind, I really don't want to hear about it." Gwen said. "Must've excited your parents."

"They cried... and then they were excited... and that's about it. They are proud of me for finally moving out. And yes, Gwennie-poo, I'll be paying rent."

"Wasn't going to ask, Aggie."

"Well, you have to have more income for that baby than just what you were making from your music."

"Which wasn't much. I appreciate it, and thank you. Let's get this bed set up."

Gwen went to move the box that contained Agathe's bed, but was overcome by nausea and had to sit down instead. Agathe looked at her with pity and took the box out herself.

"It's okay, Gwen. I brought the small one. I can set it up, you just go take care of yourself."

"I don't want to be alone," Gwen told her, her eyes welling. She looked away so Agathe wouldn't see her tears, but it was too late.

"Gwen? ...Gwen, look at me. Are you okay? Come here," Agathe pulled Gwen up into an embrace. "What's wrong? Why the sudden tears?"

The only word Gwen could force out was "Why?"

"Why what?"

But Gwen couldn't say anything else. She was suddenly tired, and somehow Agathe could sense it. Agathe brought out a chair for Gwen and set it in the corner.

"You don't have to be alone, Gwennie-poo. Just sit here, I'll put my bed together."

Agathe worked long into the night putting her bed together, and decorating the walls how she wanted. Gwen eventually dozed off, in a rather uncomfortable position.

**********************************************************************************

"Gwen... Gwe-en... Pssst." Agathe was trying to gently wake Gwen up in the morning.

"Huh?" Gwen noticed she had moved to the couch. She blinked hard and tried to clear her head.

"Sorry if you're kinda stiff. I moved you to the couch, it just seemed more comfortable. I wasn't going to try and carry you upstairs though. You've put on alot of weight, and baby-face I mean that in the nicest way possible."

Gwen looked down at her belly. Had she started to show? She hadn't noticed any growth, but she supposed her weight would be higher than normal anyway.

"You got a call from Aiden, at like three. Yes, in the morning."

Gwen grunted.

"I told him you were sleeping, like pregnant ladies should. He asked if you could call later tonight."

Gwen shook her head.

"That's what I thought, baby-face. I told him I'd tell you, but it probably wouldn't happen."

Gwen smiled, and attempted to get up. Agathe made a mother-like "ah-ah-ah" noise, which Gwen could only cock her head to.

"I made you breakfast. Pancakes with strawberries, whipped cream, butter, and some orange juice and milk. Eat up."

Gwen ate gratefully, making a mental note to go shopping later. About halfway through the first pancake Gwen looked up. "Aggie, what time is it?"

"Nine thirty."

"Argh... Why so early?"

"Because you're going to need a different sleeping schedule with that baby around."

"Can we at least start later on? It doesn't pop out for awhile."

"Nope."

Gwen rolled her eyes and continued eating.

By afternoon, Agathe had her room finished. Gwen decided to take her grocery shopping trip, completely unaware that who she'd find there would change her future.

Beauty is not caused. It is.

After Agathe left, Gwen became very aware of how alone she was. As she sat on the couch with her guitar strung out on her lap, her thoughts drifted to the life forming in her belly.

This isn't so bad, I suppose. Babies are cute, and she... or he... is of my blood... How can I possibly hate that?

Of course, I'm going to need a bigger place to live if I'm going to raise a child...

She got up and gracefully sat in front of her computer to look at local real estate. Gwen scrolled through page after page of single bedroom houses, wondering if she'd ever find something to suite her needs. Suddenly, her eyes fell upon a three-bedroom house, and only for about 60k simoleons.

Gwen used the next few days to call the agent, and make plans to move. Finally, after a week of stress and nausea, she had packed and moved. Within the few days afterwards, with the help of Agathe, she had unpacked.

"Agathe, are you still living with your parents?" asked Gwen when they sat down after a long day of unpacking.

"Yeah, I've been looking at houses, though. I just can't figure out what I want to do, and I don't really want to settle here without thinking it through."

"Why don't you move in with me, then?" Gwen had been considering having Agathe around. "I could use some help when this baby comes about."

Agathe agreed to move in, "I'll take the downstairs bedroom. You hoping for a boy or a girl?"

Her statement made Gwen smile for the first time in days. Her hand went to her belly, "I would love to have a little girl in my life."

"Well, she can call me Aunty Aggie!" Agathe exclaimed. The girls giggled for a few seconds. "I suppose I should go and talk to my rents, and start packing."

"I'll go with you --" Gwen started.

"Don't bother Gwennie-poo. I don't want you to stress your body more than you have to. Lubbs you, and I'll see you soon." Agathe told her, and promptly left.

That night, Gwenith lay in bed thinking of the day's events, and realized that her statement about having a girl was very true. And her name... is Katsa Jade, she thought. The nursery, though. That was the tough part. What would her theme be? Gwen's thoughts drifted to the empty bedroom that would become the baby's room.

I'm so very grateful to have such a wonderful friend.

A word is dead when it is said, some say. I say it just begins to live that day

It wasn't but a couple days later that Gwen's best friend decided to stop for a visit. She opened the door in tears, and the girls were automatically hugging.

"Please come in, I -- I have to tell you something."

Agathe has been Gwenith's best friend since highschool, and has always been supportive. As soon as the two girls sat down, Gwen's story was babbling and rambling out of her mouth quickly, down to every last dirty detail.

"You're having a baby?" Agathe hadn't dreamed that her friend would be settling so soon. "Well... Congratulations!"

Gwen could only sigh in response. She stared at the floor for a few awkward seconds.

"Hey... I know it's a tough road. Especially with him leaving like that. You can file a law suit you know."

Gwen looked up at this, "Agathe... He's married. Who am I to ruin that?"

Agathe looked like she'd been punched, "A pregnant woman with low income. Who is he to deny you and his child some support?"

"A married man."

"Gwen, honestly, it's his fault."

"It's as much his fault as it is mine."

"UGH!" Agathe grunted. "Hopeless. Well, you're not going to care for the child alone." Gwen gave her friend a quizzical look. "I'll be here for you. Don't worry too much, and keep your stress low. I'll be here every step of the way."

Gwen smiled, and thought about it for a moment. She would most likely need the help. "Okay. And Agathe?"

"Yeah?"

"What are you wearing?"

"Oh... Party tonight. You would've heard, of course, but you've locked yourself up in this house for so long..." Agathe giggled. Gwen only leaned back as she rolled her eyes and smiled. "It's good to see you smile, Gwenny-poo. I'm only a call away if you need me."

The girls said their goodbyes and Agathe left. Gwen was left alone, yet again, to her hotflashes and nausea.

Agathe and Gwen were an odd pair. Almost polar opposites, really. Gwenith was dark, and quiet. Agathe was girly, outgoing, and fun. Gwen always thought it was strange that they got along so well, and that Agathe was so accepting. Most other girls like her would've run at the sight of Gwen. What made Agathe so different?

Pipe the sweet birds in ignorant cadence

About a month has passed, and no calls from Aiden. All Gwen could think about is if she scared him away, what she did wrong that night, what the hell happened, anyway?

All of a sudden, she was in the bathroom, nauseous out of nowhere. It's not like this hadn't happened before, about a week ago, in fact. She wondered what was going on.

When she came out of the bathroom she checked the calendar on her wall. Then, it hit her.

Oh, shit. My period was supposed to be two days ago. I'm...

Without thinking, she picked up her phone and started dialing.

Ring, ring...

Hey, it's Aiden, sorry I couldn't get your call. Leave a message. *Beep*

Gwen was in tears, "Aiden... I have to talk to you. I think... I think I might be pregnant." She left it at that. She knew he wouldn't call back, but she felt better by telling him.

About ten minutes later, she got a phone call. Her heart jumped. Aiden.

"Hello?"

A moment of silence. "Gwen?"

"Yeah?"

"I can't be with you anymore." Gwen was silent, trying to take the news the best she could. "I'm married. You were nothing but a free ride."

She hung up. I won't listen to this, she thought to herself. She thought about some of her options. Abortion was one. But mother wouldn't like that. Adoption? No, mother wouldn't like that either.

But who will help me? I can't do this alone...

With mother's approval, I shall have you

Would mother approve of some of the men Gwen had been with? Probably not. But she had always felt that sex was her only escape from her sorrow.

Would mother approve that Gwen might finally be settling down with just one guy? It's better than the alternative.

"I love you," he told her once in her living room. Stunned, all Gwen could think to do was kiss him. "I'm guessing that's your way of saying it back?"

She just stared at him, opening her mouth, then closing it again.

"I'm sorry, I caught you off guard." He got up to leave.

"Aiden..." She started. "I... love you too."

Aiden turned to look at her. She stared into his wonderful, melty eyes. Slowly, he ran his hand over her curves, onto her back, laying her down on the couch. His kisses felt sweeter, his body felt amazing against hers.

Somehow, they ended up upstairs, in her bedroom, under the covers.

When she woke up, he had gone. Gwen went about her day as normal, eating, practicing, writing, looking for jobs in the paper. As she did these, she was always waiting for her phone to ring, or for him to show up at her door. Gwen told herself that she would call him in the morning.

The real introduction of Gwenith Slate

Gwenith was an ambitious girl, and very opinionated. She didn't like anything to get in her way, and even then, she fought for success. But, when her mom died shortly after Gwenith turned 20, she almost gave up on all she cared about. They had a very close relationship, and Gwen could not bare to think about going on without her mother. Eventually, after months of getting better little by little, she picked up her guitar again.

Gwen had picked up her career, and had started talking to her friends again, though something within her had changed. She was bitter, possibly from memories of highschool, or maybe of her verbally abusive stepfather, and she was quiet. She enjoyed sitting alone in the calm of her living room, or when she was with friends she would only listen.

Her story begins here, in the town of Bridgeport, where she has found new grounds and looks forward to new memories. Far enough away from her mother's gravesite, but close enough to be able to visit. To be able to read her epitaph over and over: "Sarah Slate: loving mother and wife. Died of an overdose." ...Had it been Gwen who had written the epitaph, it would have said something much deeper.

Intro: an explanation

This isn't going to start off a story; in fact, I don't even know if I'll do a story for this one. I looked at the list of different legacies and challenges, and the themacy/themeacy idea looked pretty neat. The only problem? I am a cheater. Generally I try to stick to the rules, but I overuse the motherlode cheat. I like my money.

Anyway, Gwenith is named after Gwen, from Guild Wars, who is a very bitter character. She finds it hard to love, especially after her mother died in the war in Ascalon, and she became a leader of the Ebon Vanguard.

If I end up with a story coming out of this backstory, let's hope I don't get lazy, or my game doesn't crash, etc...

My first theme will be "Goth." The real intro is upcoming.
